Just giving away my time and resources may seem very virtuous to some, but if it limits or results in the demise of my beneficial projects, including my websites, then that 'virtue' becomes self defeating. Yet that's apparently what nearly everyone expects of me! — Barmy!

Please remember that everything that I'm presenting on each site is costing me money one way or another, and I don't get a living income from my activities.

If you value any of my sites and their contents, a donation would be greatly appreciated and would help me maintain it.

All donations are welcome; a £5 minimum is suggested, but anything at all would be gratefully accepted.

PayPal fees

Please note that PayPal deducts a fairly small percentage, so I never receive fully what you pay (e.g., a £200 payment for a workshop had £9 deducted, including currency conversion). If you want to avoid that happening, please consider alternative payment methods such as charge-free instant bank transfer (if available from your country) or a truly reputable really low-fee international transfer service (be very careful to avoid glossy-looking scam money transfer sites!). People in the UK can always use instant bank transfer (BACS). On request I will provide the necessary bank account details for such transfers.

Alternatively, you may wish to slightly increase your payment, effectively to cover the PayPal charge yourself.

Important! If you don't have a PayPal account, and so have to enter your personal details to make a payment, if you're a non-UK payer, you may need to set the amount of your donation BEFORE you select your country. Otherwise you may get a rather inconspicuous error message and a failure to change your country until you've entered the amount. I'm not sure if this problem still occurs, though.

Conditional donations

I didn't really want to put such a note anywhere on my sites, but a recent occurrence has shown that it makes sense for me to do so now, as a helpful clarification.

I'm sure that the vast majority of visitors to my sites would understand that it's only fair and reasonable that all donations are given without conditions, whether explicit or implicit — i.e., apart, of course, from further donations most likely depending on the continuation and development of the appreciated site(s).

As it is, I've felt a little uneasy about a smallish minority of the donations I've received, because there's sometimes been an unspoken agenda — an expectation that I'd answer questions from, or be a 'listening ear' for, or otherwise supposedly 'help' the respective individual, against my better judgement.

If people want specific services from me, then it's up to them to tell me that directly (my answer would generally amount to No, please use the website and work things out for yourself), and not simply to expect me to comply with particular wishes of theirs because they've donated.

I've recently had a brazen case where somebody who'd donated periodically (much appreciated in itself) eventually sought to pressure me into accepting and engaging with his particular paranoid and conspiracy-theory-engaging mindset. He gave me an ultimatum — he'd increase his periodic donation amount if I did as he was wanting (thoroughly engaging with all that stuff, to his own specifications), and he'd stop donating if I didn't.

— No way! Any form of financial coercion or bribery is completely unacceptable. — I gave him short shrift, and will do likewise for anyone else who tries that sort of thing on me!

Automatic Regular Donations If by any chance you wish to make an automatic regular donation in excess of £50, or any other option, please get in touch so that I can create an appropriate 'subscription' option for you. You can specify not only the amount but also the frequency. However, particularly for larger sums it's worth finding out whether you can set up a regular charge-free transfer from your bank account. Certainly from within the UK all the major banks can do charge-free (BACS aka Faster Payments) transfers to other UK banks, but the possibilities for charge-free transfers from banks outside the UK are limited. Please be aware too that PayPal charges are proportionately less for larger amounts. In March 2021 I found that PP was charging 7.9% on £10, 6.4% on £20, and 5.65% on £40. So, you could reduce charges a bit by arranging with me for, say, quarterly payments of four times your intended monthly amount. Whatever works best for you…

Cancel a regular donation (either to stop regular donating or to switch to a different donation amount)
