Hooken undercliff with birds, wind, and sea echoes on the cliff
30 April 2013Beautifully, weirdly, spacey effect as the sea echoes on the cliff towering above, with many springtime bird sounds, including fulmar, raven, wren, blackcap, blue tit, chiffchaff. The sea has the special sound caused by waves breaking, with intervening drawbacks, upon a shingle beach, so the pebbles make their own sound as they are drawn forward and then pulled back. — 55'

Spring birdsong high up on slope of Salcombe Valley, near Sidmouth
26 March 2014Early spring birdsong in the open woods high up on east side of Salcombe Valley, featuring particularly chiffchaff and robin, with background distant sea sound, which is unduly loud for the modest wave size because of the waves action on shingle beach, making the pebbles roll noisily as they surge forward and then draw back. — 38'

Spring birdsong on Lincombe clifftop, east of Sidmouth
26 March 2014Early spring birdsong in undercliff scrub, heard from the clifftop where the Lincombe valley, near Salcombe Regis and Weston, ends at a clifftop (part of Dunscombe Cliff) rather than opening directly to the sea. It features particularly chiffchaff and robin, with background sea sound muffled because the 'action' is hidden by the shape of the cliff. The sea action is unduly loud for the modest wave size because of the waves action on shingle beach, making the pebbles roll noisily as the waves surge forward and then draw back. — 38'

Spellbound by wave sound patterns around Salcombe Mouth!
5 November 2014An intoxicatingly beautiful interplay of different well separated patches of small wave action, on mostly shingle beach, around Salcombe Mouth, near Sidmouth, Devon, UK, complete with periodic serenade punctuations from the odd robin, recorded from relatively low clifftop, so all the wave action is fairly distant. — 39'
